This is a temporary addition to the website for ATS students. I'm hoping to provide you with tips and advice for putting together your tribal costume.
Click the link to take you to the "How-to" page:
For student tribal performances you are expected to have pantaloons, a cotton 25-yard skirt, a black choli top, hip scarf and a headband/hair flowers.
The best zils I've used come from Saroyan Mastercrafts: www.saroyanzils.com. Just click on "online store" and "students & advanced dancers". At Saroyan's website you can actually listen to the zils before you buy them! For students, I think the best zils are the Nefertiti or the Arabesque. They're inexpensive and sound great!
You can also get zils from Turquoise International. Beginners will probably want Turquoise's size A zils.
For tribal skirts I love Flying Skirts! www.flyingskirts.com They have so many options! Plus, you can buy choli tops, harem pants, belts, bras, etc. . .
Theora at Theora's Bellydance Boutique does custom work. She sells cholis, skirts, hip scarfs and dance pants and you can have them made to your measurements.
You can also check out MoonDance Bellydance. They carry almost everything: cholis, skirts, belts, harem pants and practice wear. What I love about their site is something's always on SALE!! www.moondancebellydance.com
Two of my favorite places to shop are ebay and etsy. Just type in "bellydance" into the search boxes and have a look around. For the bellydancer on a budget, ebay is a wonderful place to find some great deals. Etsy is a website for artists to offer their wares. Often you'll find handmade, one-of-a-kind bellydance items there!
The following is a list of other websites providing ATS costuming:
Flying Skirts is an awesome website to see and purchase tribal costuming.
Below are some examples of what you can get on their site. I love, love, love Flying Skirts because you can order skirts by length!
It's fabulous for the dancer who is NOT one-size-fits-all.
