I started my first real belly dance class when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. My teacher was Dr. Maya, an amazingly talented dancer who unfortunately moved away from Boone at the end of the school year. About a year after the birth of my son another teacher started classes here. After about 3 months one of her students took over. This was in 2006. I've been dancing since then. This year my New Year's Resolution was to dance every day. I don't always fit even an hour of practice in, but I do dance a bit every day.
I'm trying to build a troupe of dedicated dancers here in Boone. There are some really talented women out there, but with life's business to take care of, helping them find time to practice is the greatest challenge.
Currently, I'm taking classes with Maysameh, a teacher off the mountain. She is a wonderful instructor, a fabulous person and a great friend. Maysameh has been extremely encouraging and has offered advice and assistance whenever I'm feeling lost. The woman truly has a heart of gold!
Through belly dance I've met the most wonderful women. They are beautiful, funny, strong women and I owe these friendships to this dance. We may never have met otherwise. I'm so very grateful for these ladies who constantly remind me just how fun life can be! I love you guys!
